Learn how to keep warm, dry, well fed, found, and comfortable. In this one-day workshop we will learn how to pack, what to bring, how to stay comfortable, and how to stay found.

Topics include:

How to pack for extended trips:

• Backpack size
• Gear needed for 2 days – 3 months
• Tents or tarps?

Kitchen:

• Stoves, pots, pans…what is really necessary.
• Nutrition requirements for extended backpacking

• Managing human waste
• Dealing with kitchen waste
• Fires…yes or no?

First Aid & Emergency

• What to include in your first aid kit
• Contents of your emergency bivouac kit

Clothing

• How to keep warm, dry, and comfortable

Sleeping Bags and Pads

• How to choose and what you need
• Survival

Survival

• Shelter building
• Fire starters

Basic Map & Compass

• How to read a map
• Using a compass without a map.

What to Bring:

• Your personal backpacking equipment (if you have any)
• Lunch

Reservations canceled more than 10 days prior to start date:

• May be rescheduled at no charge OR
• You may receive a refund less a flat $50.00 cancellation fee

Reservations canceled within 10 days prior to start date:

• Are non-refundable.*
• No credits will be issued.

* If there is a waiting list and your spot can be filled you will receive a refund less a $50.00 cancellation fee. If there is no waiting list and your spot cannot be filled no credit will be issued.
