Sea Kayaking Skills Series: May 31, June 1 & 2

This class is designed for those who want to gain the skills and confidence to safely execute a full day sea kayaking trip with friends or family. We will focus on paddle technique, re-entries, towing, and navigation. Session 1 will be on Unity Pond. Session 2 we will launch from Stockton Springs. After consulting our group and charts we will decide the location for session 3.

Session 1:

• Introduction to Equipment: Paddles, Kayaks, PFD’s, Safety Gear, Clothing, and Repair kits
• Useful Knots: Bowline, Truckers Hitch, Clove Hitch, Figure 8, Double Fisherman’s and Daisy Chain
• Paddle Technique
• Re-entries, Rescues, and Towing

Session 2:

• Ocean Navigation: Using a Compass and a Chart
• Wind, Waves, Tide, & Current

Session 3: Putting it all together

On this day we will plan and execute a full day paddle. Taking into account wind, waves, tides, and group capability we will determine the risk and plan our route accordingly

• Sea Kayaks are available for a small fee of 20.00/day.

You provide:

• Lunch & plenty of water
• Proper clothing (clothing list will be provided upon registration)
• A sense of adventure

Your guides for this class are North Star Adventures founder Nancy Zane and Maine Guide & Master Level Executive Coach Adriana Bellerose. Nancy and Adriana have been paddling and working together for 10 years. Currently they lead Women’s Leadership Retreats in Costa Rica and guide Women’s Paddling trips in Maine. Reservations canceled more than 10 days prior to start date:

• May be rescheduled at no charge OR
• You may receive a refund less a flat $50.00 cancellation fee

Reservations canceled within 10 days prior to start date:

• Are non-refundable.*
• No credits will be issued.

* If there is a waiting list and your spot can be filled you will receive a refund less a $50.00 cancellation fee. If there is no waiting list and your spot cannot be filled no credit will be issued.
