NORTH STAR ADVENTURES

Community Collaborations

I am excited to unveil a new page on my website:  Community Connections. One of the most important aspects of my business is collaboration with the community. I have been meeting with people throughout Maine and looking for areas in which we can work together to create unique affordable programming. I have had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people!

My first collaborative effort has been with Northwood Natural Learning. In February we delivered a Maine Recreational Guide course at their base in Unity Maine.  The weekend of June 8-10 we are offering a River Canoeing Expedition & Workshop. While the weekend is designed for those who want to become Maine Recreational Guides it is open to anyone who wants to become a better, safer, and more educated paddler. It has been fun working with a designing this course with Trevanna. She is an amazing naturalist, outdoors woman and educator.

As a business sponsor for

Sebasticook Regional Land Trust, I am committed to supporting their mission by offering their members affordable educational opportunities. Late March I did a presentation on my favorite paddles in central Maine. It was held at 93 Main in Unity. A group of committed community members and paddlers joined me for an evening of summer dreaming. Recently I did an Outdoor Culinary Arts fundraiser for SRLT. Beth Arnold, Gerry Saunders, and I worked together to create a day of fun and food. Check out the blog Outdoor Cooking. We raised $200.00! Looking forward to dreaming up my next event!

Go Inland.me is a collaborative effort between five businesses. Our goal is to support, promote, and work together to create opportunities in interior Waldo County. We offer everything from classes, to overnight accommodations, beautiful handcrafted pieces, unique plants, and outdoor adventures. “Experience the Handcrafted Life Connect with Maine Artisans, Agrarians, & Adventurers”.  Go Inland!

For the past five years I have been working with the Maine Island Trails Association (MITA)  to offer a

Wilderness First Aid Afloat (WFAA) course for their members.  WFAA is a collaboration between SOLO School of Wilderness Medicine and the U.S. Coast Guard. I am an instructor for SOLO and I offer this course at a special rate for MITA members. I am a firm believer that anyone who ventures into the backcountry either by boat or by land should have a wilderness medicine certification.

I am also going to be offering CPR and Stop the Bleed courses in the community at cost. Stop the Bleed was developed by the Department of Homeland Security in 2015. It was created in response to mass shootings in an effort to train laypeople how to stop life threatening bleeding and ultimately save lives. Check out the certifications section of my webpage for dates and times.  If you don’t see a scheduled course of your organization wants to offer either of these programs please contact me and we can schedule a date!

Adventures in Art is a collaborative program with some amazing artists! I am very excited about the slate of programs that we have put together for the 2018 season!  Check out the

Adventures in Art section of my webpage for a complete schedule.

I am a collaborator. I believe in synergy and that the sum is always greater than its parts. When communities work together, all of their individual parts can create amazing opportunities for folks of all ages and abilities. I look forward to working with so many amazing creative people. If you have an idea for collaboration please contact me…I’m always open to new ideas!
